Nine out of the 10 wrongful death lawsuits stemming from the tragic incident at the 2021 Astroworld music festival have been settled, with only one case remaining pending. The lawsuits were filed after 10 concert-goers, including 23-year-old Madison Dubiski, lost their lives during rapper Travis Scott’s performance.
Attorney Neal Manne, representing Live Nation, confirmed the settlements but did not disclose the terms due to a gag order in the case. The agreements were reached without the need for a trial and are aimed at honoring Dubiski’s memory while also focusing on improving concert safety.
Dubiski’s family has taken proactive steps by establishing the Pink Bows foundation to enhance safety measures at outdoor music events. Meanwhile, the last remaining wrongful death lawsuit was filed by the family of 9-year-old Ezra Blount, the youngest victim of the tragedy.
In total, over 4,000 plaintiffs filed lawsuits in relation to the Astroworld incident, with approximately 2,400 injury cases still pending. Allegations of negligence in event planning and lack of concern for capacity and safety have been raised by attorneys representing the victims.
Despite a police investigation, a grand jury decided not to indict Travis Scott or others linked to the festival last year. The settlements reached in the wrongful death cases aim to provide some closure for the families affected by the devastating crowd surge at the 2021 Astroworld music festival.
