Los Angeles Dodgers star outfielder Cody Bellinger suffered a fractured rib during a game against the Houston Astros at Wrigley Field on April 23. Despite initially staying in the game for a couple of innings after the injury, X-rays were negative but an MRI later revealed the fracture.
Before the injury, Bellinger had been on a hot streak, batting .346/.433/.769 over the seven games leading up to the incident. In his absence, Mike Tauchman and Pete Crow-Armstrong stepped up to fill in admirably.
To make room for Bellinger on the roster, Alexander Canario has been optioned back to Triple-A. Meanwhile, pitcher Daniel Palencia has landed on the 15-day Injured List due to right shoulder stiffness. In his place, Keegan Thompson has been recalled to the active roster.
Fortunately for the Dodgers, Bellinger has now been activated from the Injured List and is set to return as the designated hitter against the San Diego Padres tonight. Fans are hopeful that his return will give the team a much-needed boost as they continue their push for the playoffs. Stay tuned for updates on Bellinger’s performance and the Dodgers’ progress as the season unfolds.
